The History of The Open Championship
The Open Championship, often referred to simply as “The Open,” stands as golf’s oldest major championship, dating back to 1860! Not to mention, the tournament is known for its unique blend of tradition and passion for the sport, the perfect kind of atmosphere to witness history in the making!
The Course: Royal Troon
While the The Open Championship is rich itself, the history doesn’t stop there. The Royal Troon Golf Club has hosted the British Open a number of times, dating back to 1923. This year’s tournament marks the 10th year of hosting, a fitting milestone for the occasion. While this course is traditionally designed with a gentle opening, the back nine is said to be among the toughest in the world. With that, this renowned course is known for staging numerous noteworthy moments throughout the history of The Open, and this year was certainly no exception!
Tournament Recap
Xander Schauffele wrapped up an exciting week at The 152nd Open with an impressive final-round score of 65 at Royal Troon, clinching his second major championship of the season. Schauffele ended the tournament at 9-under 275, finishing two strokes ahead of Justin Rose and Billy Horschel, and adding a claret jug to the Wanamaker Trophy he won earlier this year at the PGA Championship at Valhalla.
